KOMPUTER JADUL - Qualcomm has introduced its latest gaming processors, the Snapdragon G Series 2025. Coming in three categories, namely Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, G2 Gen 2, and G1 Gen 2, this platform is made for Android-based handheld gaming devices, with a focus on performance, efficiency, and connectivity that are so much better.
G3 Gen 3 is the flagship series, the first Snapdragon G to support Lumen technology from Unreal Engine 5, enabling advanced lighting and ray tracing for more immersive visuals. This processor has a 30 percent faster CPU and a 28 percent graphics improvement over its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the G2 Gen 2 gets a much bigger upgrade. Intended for high-quality gaming and cloud streaming, this platform delivers gameplay up to 144FPS and significantly improves performance, with a 2.3x CPU improvement and 3.8x GPU faster than the previous generation.
Until now, Qualcomm has not revealed details about the type of core they are using, whether Kryo or Oryon. However, what is clear is that the Adreno A22 GPU supports Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (upscaling technology) and Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 (frame generation).
Both Snapdragon G3 Gen 3 and G2 Gen 2 can run QHD+ displays up to 144Hz. On the connectivity side, both chips are equipped with Wi-Fi 7 to ensure a stable wireless connection and lower latency. Other support is Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G as an option.
For the more affordable, Qualcomm provides the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2. This entry-level gaming platform is designed for 1080p cloud gaming at 120FPS, offering an 80 percent increase in CPU performance and a 25 percent increase in GPU.
This product focuses on providing a smooth and easily accessible gaming experience via Wi-Fi 5. "This platform delivers great gaming capabilities on portable devices," said Micah Knapp, Senior Director of Qualcomm Product Management, quoted from Gizmochina, Tuesday (18-03-2025).
The platform is said to give device makers and developers the flexibility to innovate across a variety of devices and gaming preferences. The new CPU (2+6) lacks a prime core, but is still 80 percent faster than its predecessor.
The Adreno A12 GPU on the chip delivers a more modest 25% performance boost. The focus is on efficiency rather than performance. There’s also Bluetooth 5.1 and a 5G option.
Devices equipped with the G Series chip are likely to launch in Q2 2025. “Starting this quarter”, Knapp said as quoted by GSM Arena.
One of the gaming devices using Qualcomm’s latest platform is the OneXSugar Sugar 1, a handheld console from the company Ayaneo.
