The CHRONOLOGY of Marc Marquez's accident in the 2024 Thailand MotoGP race has been revealed. The Gresini Ducati star admitted that he lost the front tire grip when cornering.
In the race that took place at the Chang International Circuit on Sunday, October 27, 2024 afternoon WIB, The Baby Alien -Marquez's nickname- started the race very well. He was able to compete in the front row with Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin.
When Martin made a mistake, Marquez was able to overtake him to move up to second place. However, he was held back for a very long time behind the Ducati Lenovo hero.
"I couldn't overtake Bagnaia neatly," said Marquez as reported by Speedweek, Monday (10/28/2024).
Marquez saw the only opportunity to overtake Pecco -Bagnaia's nickname- was at Turn 12. Because he felt that in sectors 3 and 4 he was faster than the defending champion.
"I could have overtaken him there. At other braking points I was too far away. I felt better in the slow corners and in sectors 3 and 4 I was faster than Bagnaia,” explained the six-time MotoGP champion.
“I had to keep the front tyre cool to be able to launch an attack,” he added.
However, all of Marquez’s planned strategies did not work. In the end, he fell on lap 14 and lost his position.
However, the Cervera-born rider was able to get back up again. He finally finished in 11th position. Marquez said the accident happened because his front tyre lost its grip.
“With just 1.5 degrees more lean angle, I lost the front tyre (grip),” explained Marquez.
With this result, Marquez is still in third place in the 2024 MotoGP standings. He is increasingly far behind Martin and Bagnaia so that his chances of winning are just wishful thinking.
